We are delighted to announce that Little Enterprise will be offering the new SEQ (Social Enterprise Qualification.)

The SEQ is an internationally recognised qualification developed by Real Ideas CIC

The qualification links core business skills to social enterprise, giving participants a unique insight in the world of social business.

The developers of the qualification – Real Ideas have said…

SEQ is a way in which learners can create positive social change whilst learning some business basics.

It enables learners to make the social change that is important to them, whilst gaining a qualification that will boost their employability. SEQ is about developing the social entrepreneurs of the future, and giving learners the skills and confidence to make change for themselves and others. It’s not just a qualification; it’s a means for change.

SEQ was piloted in England over an academic year. From henna tattoos to bird boxes, young people created a range of environmentally friendly products and services, generating income for social needs in England and overseas, all the while learning good business skills and gaining confidence to make positive social change.

Here at Little Enterprise we feel the qualification offers an amazingly innovative opportunity to gain a real insight in to running your own business with a social focus.

Participants will have the opportunity to develop their ideas, pitch for investment, gain presentation skills, learn about marketing their business through print and social media, managing business finances and growing a sustainable business model.

The qualification is aimed at young people, communities and adults wanting to find out about becoming a Social Entrepreneur whilst gaining a qualification at the same time.

The SEQ is genuinely unique and offers people the chance to run their own social enterprise within a group setting whilst linking to social entrepreneurs around the globe.

We can offer this qualification and training to schools, youth groups and communities in their own setting.

Please contact michelle@LittleEnterprise for further details.

Or you could ask … can you teach enterprise skills? Either way you look at it, there are a huge proportion of our young people today just drifting through school, feeling disconnected with the curriculum and their career prospects. All they hear is doom and gloom and ‘the economic crisis’ this and the ‘global recession’ that … some may be facing difficulties at home as one or both parents are made redundant or are out of work. Is it any wonder some young people just start to think …’what’s the point’?

Now some schools are fantastic when it comes to trying something a bit different, having enterprise days, holding business clubs after school and generally encouraging younger people to consider a wider range of options… and some schools pay lip service.. but is it enough? In this tough economic climate (see I’m at it now) enterprise should be at the heart of the curriculum, schools should be encouraging their enterprising young people to embrace different ways of working.

Holding meaningful enterprise days, where the children are at the heart of the days agenda is the way forward. Get them thinking about their individual talents (we all excel at something) and encouraging and nurturing their ideas about how they could turn this in to something amazing… something that has got a purpose ..and a point!

It will be one of those days that will be forever etched on their memory… and it just might inspire them to try something different.

Little Enterprise can offer a whole host of Enterprise packages for schools – contact us for details.
